Chrysler Repair: 1993 chrysler concorde 3.3L automatic transmission, chrysler concorde, 1993 chrysler concorde

Question
what are the ID codes for the transmission that is in my vehicle.  I have some info but I am confused.  I have heard that a 42LE and A606 also DGX 4-speed.  Can you help me identify which transmission is in my car.  My VIN# 2C3EL56TOPH600460.  Thank you, your help is appreciated.  Lou Kerckhoff

Answer
Hi Lou,
I have not looked for ID numbers on transmissions, however the manual says that the i.d. number is located on a boss located on the transaxle housing. It also has a serial number located on a pad just above the oil pan on the rear of the transmission. The 41TE (A604) identifiaction tag isjust to the right of the solenoid assembly box which is prominently visible on the side of the transmission that faces the front of the car. That one is used with the 3.0L engine. I thus suspect that you have a 42LE (A606) on your 3.3L engine.

I wonder if it is not the case that you could query the Chrysler corporation to answer your question. I believe that they keep very detailed records on each car built because of the Federal laws on recalls. Either ask the dealer parts dept how to do this, or get an 800 number for Corporate headquarters in Michigan via "information" 1-800-555-1212
The other place to look is on the body code plate (located either on the left side inner fender shield, wheel housing; or upper radiator support (all visualized from under the hood in the engine compartment), but the transmission code only says whether it has a manual or an automatic, and the number of forward speeds. It is the first three letters on the bottom line and DGL is the code for a 4-speed automatic. I would suspect that the parts counter at the Chrysler dealer can tell you which specific 4-speed is in your car because they are usually matched to the engine type and model year.
