Chrysler Repair: Eagle Talon, dollors, hot check

Question
Hi Pete
I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI turbo, 5 speed.  Yesterday I was driving 50 km an hour when the car stopped dead suddenly.  After a few minutes I got it into first gear, and around a corner to get off the road.

I noticed the rear drivers wheel was hot.  Brakes are fairly new, and the transmission has not been a problem.  Now, it goes into first gear, but no other gear.  It wants to drive in neutral.  I have a lot of money invested in
repairs, and wonder if this problem is serious enough to go another repair.

Should I look for a transmission from the wreckers, or is it worth a trip to the transmission shop.  I have not had the best of luck with shops, so your advise is much appreciated.   Thanks, Cheryl
