Chrysler Repair: Tranny slips and whines, exspense, mild weather

Question
I have a 1991 Acclaim LX V6, with the 4 speed OD, which I have owned since new.  The transmission was replaced with a fatory rebuilt one 60k miles ago - with all updates as of 1998.  Worked perfectly the day before when I parked it, but when I went to drive the next day - it did this:

It felt as if the tranny didn't go into gear solidly, so it slips and whines as I tried to drive it.  Fluid level is normal.  All gears act the same, including reverse.  Even in park, it still whines.  The normal ratcheting sound when changing gears sounds weak and drawn out.  Every once in a while a gear will engage solidly, but when I start to drive the tranny slips again.  (I've sat in the driveway and played with it, but haven't driven more than a few hundred feet.)

Could this be something simple enough that I won't have to replace the whole tranny?  Even though it has 230k miles on it the car is still in beautiful shape.  I wouldn't go to the exspense of another rebuilt transmision though.  I felt blessed to get 170k out of my first transmision, which must have just been dumb luck, because I used it to tow a few times.  This tranny has never seen heavy use.  Just leisurely, mostly freeway driving in mild weather.

I should also add that I have had a slow fluid leak for the last several years, so I have been adding a new quart of fluid (Dexron III, I know, please don't scold me - :o)  I've never changed the fluid or filter though.  With the prior transmision I changed the fluid after each trailer pulling episode.

I'm relatively experienced working on cars, but don't have the facilities to pull the transmision.  I was going to just sell the car for parts, since it has so little value left, but now I have a long commute and need it for work.  I'm hoping for a cheap easy fix.

Thanks you very much for your help.
