Question
QUESTION: Still trying to get my RR to start consistently.  What should the voltage be to the ignition coil.  I have @6.9 volts, which I think is low.  If so, can I run a jumper wire from the battery to the coil to see if the car will start?

Thanks,
Bill

ANSWER: Yes. It should be between 11 to 13 volts.
Set the multimeter to the 200-ohm setting and attach the meter's leads corresponding to the terminal markings, red being positive and black being negative. The normal primary reading for 12V on the primary side is 1.6, although a range of 1.5 to 1.7 is acceptable.

Next, you'll want to measure the resistance of the secondary coil, and this is the real business-end of the spark-producer. Switch the meter's resistance range to the 20K-ohm setting and attach the negative (black) meter lead to the center terminal of the coil. The reading here should be 11.0 or better, with 13.4 being about normal. If your coil reads under 11.0, the coil is most likely bad.

QUESTION: Thanks Vern for the promp reply,
My RR has started all day but I don't know if I should declare victory yet or not.  My voltage readings on the primary winding (+) of the coil with the switch on (not in the start position) is 6.38-6.75V (low?).  When the car is running the primary voltage is 10.45 V.  The resistance readings on the coil being;  Primary = 1.4 ohms; secondary being 13.2 K ohms.  Do these reading look OK or am I just lucky that is is starting?

Thanks,
Bill

Answer
Those readings look just fine.
Keep this in mind...If you let her sit for long periods,
starting will be difficult. What I do to help with the
starting is press the accelerator just slightly, to ensure
fuel is being delivered and the choke is engaged.

Once she is warm, she should start right up just by turning the key.

Is this what you are experiencing?
