Classic/Antique Car Repair: 292 oil pressure, pan gasket, yblock

Question
The oil pressure in my 55 ford 292 yblock is 75 pounds at Idle and 95 pounds when driven.
How do I bring this down. It has a new oil pump, pan gasket, cleaned oil screan. I replaced the cartridge oil filter with a spin off.

Answer
Excessive oil pressure may indicate a blocked filter, blocked oil gallery or the wrong grade of oil. 10W30 or 15W40 would be the best. Also, if the oil filter is a spin-off, make sure it's pushing enough oil through it to keep the pressure down. Finally, if there is slug build up in the engine, a good flushing is needed.

1. Make sure correct oil is being used.
2. Verify that filter is pushing oil through correctly.
3. Make sure oil pump is pumping at specification.
4. flush the engine if needed.
