Classic/Antique Car Repair: 57 chevy Belair, 57 chevy belair, edlebrock carb

Question
Brad, I have a stock 57 Belair with a 283.  I had a top end rebuild as well as a new Edlebrock carb, points, plugs, distributer etc done about six months ago and the car has run beautifully.  I have driven it 1-2 times a week, both town and highway without any problems.  Two weeks a ago I took it to a shop to have a new sending unit installed.  Since then, I have had a problem with the idle.  The car fires right up as normal, but I noticed a slight hesitating or skipping while idling. If I let the car idle for a while, it gets progressively worse and feels like it wants to cut out and the generator light comes on.  Could this in any way be connected to the installation of the sending unit? I have checked the battery as well as the voltage and it seems fine (between 12v and 12.7v).  All lights function normally.  Could this be a fuel or electrical problem trigerred by the sending unit installation?

Thanks for your help.  Dave

Answer
It sounds very much like some dirt could have been dislodged in replacing the sending unit. This appears that it could be lodged under the needle valve in the carburetor inlet and letting the car flood. It sounds like the carburetor could need some attention.
