Classic/Antique Car Repair: MOdel A Ford 1929, ford 1929, model a ford

Question
I have a restored Model A Ford 1929 and I have recently noticed that the gas gage is not registering the correct level gas in the gas tank. I understand that the gage is registering what a float indicates in the gas tank. Is there something I can do to try and get the correct gas tank reading? I tried to remove the screen in the gas filler tube, but was not able to get it out. I know that I must have almost a full tank, but the gage shows 1/4 tank full.

Answer
We all have had that problem.  Here is what you do:  Get the red book, Model  A Ford mechanics handbook from MARC or any of the suppliers.  About $35 and we all use it often.  Then, order the rebuild kit from Snyders or someone, and buy the $5.00 tool to remove the gage.  Stick with it and follow the book.  Sometimes they are hard to turn, but stick with it and let me know if I can help you if you get stuck.  You will find a wire and a float on the end of it.  The float needs to be replaced and maybe other parts after you inspect them.  Put the new gaskets in and the new glass. The float is just a cork or rubber part.
Good luck and get back to me if you need more.
