Answer
Darrell,

I've never heard the term alligator clip strip but I don't claim to be an expert bodyman either. You are correct that the tack strip and/or the headliner material is failing. Depending on the condition of both, it may be repairable or you might just have to plan for a new headliner.

I've found that once the headliner starts to fail, a repair is like putting a finger in the dyke--it's only a matter of time before a new sag or tear will appear. Fortunately, there are several sources for new headliners out there, one being Lebarron Bonney (expensive but good) and others. I would also recommend professional installation at an upholstery shop. You can do this yourself with the proper tools and training but unless you have the aptitude and time, I'd leave this one to the pros.

Best,

Bob
