I am curious about wheel nuts and the factor or factors that determines how many each wheel is endowed with. [i.e., 4,5,6 or more] Is it strictly weight or are other considerations involved?  

If this question is not one you can address can you lead me to a source?

Very interesting question but one you need an automotive engineer and a basic understanding of loads, vectoring, etc. to understand. I have never heard an explanation for what you seek but I'd make contact with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). They can help you underdstand the basic physics involved and engineering good practice that guides the wheel and hub designers.
