Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1966 Corvette, starter solenoid, car lights

Question
Hello Vern,

I have a 1966 Corvette 327/350hp.....Started up perfectly this afternoon, took it for a 2 mile drive, stopped and shut it off in a parking lot for about 2 minutes and then went to start it up again. engine turned over once or twice and then went dead starter started clicking....waited half an hour and attempted to start her again, she turned over and started on first try. Got her home, left it running in the driveway and turned on the lights....the buckets came up but the lights were flickering (something like police car lights). shut her off and then attempted to restart - didn't turn over at all, starter was clicking. Any idea? Thanks.

Answer
You possibly have a direct drain on the battery. This could be
from a bad generator/alternator or loose generator belt or even
a weak or dead cell in the battery.

1. Have the battery tested at an AutoZone. If OK,
2. Have the generator/alternator tested. If OK,
3. Possibly Starter Solenoid going bad.
