Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1930 Ford Model A, good luck jack, service bulletins

Question
Just purchased a 1930 Ford Model A. I have no experience with a Model A. I am having trouble keeping it running. It starts and runs for about 5 seconds or so and then stops. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions will be great appreciated. Thanks. Bill

Answer
Find a local Model A club and join it.  They will have all the answers and help you fix it up.  Hope there is a club near you.  Also, go the the MARC site and buy the model A mechanic's handbook.  $35  By Les Andrews.  Only get the red one.
You need to find someone who can help you with the engine.  It is probably fuel.  Start taking things apart and cleaning them and putting them back together.  You can get parts from Snyders or other sources.  Get a copy of the service bulletins, they are good to have.  Clean the plugs and points.  Make sure you have good fuel flow out of the fuel line to the carb.  Join MARC, the national club.  You are going to have a lot of fun with that car.  Just start playing with it.  They are tough and you won't hurt it by taking things apart.
Good luck
