Classic/Antique Car Repair: interchangeable parts for a 1979 ford ranchero, hollander interchange, ford granada

Question
I need to replace the front driver side spindle. What other automobiles are possibly interchangeable for the spindle and for the car overall? The man doing the work is going to go to our local "pic & pull" to look for some parts no longer available through parts store. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hello Abbey,

A Ford Ranchero is in the same "family" as the Ford Torino Sedan. A Mercury Montego is the equivalent Mercury to a Torino. It is also possible that the Ford Granada and a Ford LTD II has a similar undercariage and spindle. All of these cars were manufactured multiple years with the same components so don't limit yourself to the 1979 model year only.

Among these models, multiple different years will interchange. Hollander Interchange Manual lists the years and cars that are similar for a particular component part. Any junk yard or your
"pic and pull" should have one. Failing your local yard, ebay many times will have new and used parts as long as you know the car models that interchange.

Hope this helps.
