Classic/Antique Car Repair: 69 coronrt r/t, 69 dodge coronet, factory documentation

Question
i am resto a 69 dodge coronet r/t and need to know when painting under car if it is to be black or the same color as body    thank you

Answer
Hello David,

Actually, the answer is ....both!  Depending upon how correct to the factory build you want to get, officially; the bottom of the car should be in a combination of Chassis Black (floor pans, etc,) and natural finishes (unpainted like exhaust, starter, etc.) In actual production, there was body color overspray underneath the rockers, wheel wells and even on the pre-painted engine as paint then was still essentially a manual operation. If you want to go the full factory route, see articles in MOPAR Performance magazine (they probably have a paint article on your exact car) or there is factory documentation on paint colors for various components and areas if you want to go the "as specified"

In either case, good luck on your "Bee". You've got a piece of history there!
