Classic/Antique Car Repair: Porsche 944 in desperate need of help!, air intake system, porsche 944

Question
Hello Brad,

As a graduation gift, my father gave me his prized 1985.5 Porsche 944. Problem is that it's been sitting in the garage for about 3 years now.(Due to busted calipers)
Anyway I was finally able to raise the money to buy my parts for it, and now I'm looking to start it up again.
I have no clue what should be done before trying to fire it up, there were no problems with anything other than the calipers. But still the car has been sitting for quite awhile.
Please help!

-Daniel

Answer
Congratulations on both graduation and the gift of the 944. It is a fine car. As to the start up procedures here is what I would do. First change the oil and the filter. Then remove the spark plugs and pour about a teaspoon full of oil in each spark plug hole. Turn the engine over several complete turns with a wrench on the front pulley to spread the oil around in the cylinders. Of course install new plugs and a new battery. Then locate and replace the fuel filter, it is behind the right rear wheel, and the air filter. (the fuel pump is also located near the fuel filter) Make sure that the critters like mice have not made a nest in the air intake system. With that all done, crank it up. It might take a moment to fire as the fuel filter will need to fill.
