Classic/Antique Car Repair: coil over heat, 1970 dodge challenger, ballast resistor

Question
Why is my coil over heating 1970 dodge challenger 383 replaced voltage regalator, ignition box, coil, ballist??. Will run for about 45mins just dies will start back up after cool down, coil gets hot drips oil...

Answer
Has the coil been replaced recently? Your car needs a coil that uses an outside or external ballast resistor. It is possible that the coil has an internal short that is causing it to over heat and leak oil. In any case if it is leaking oil it needs to be replaced. Now a quick question. Has the car been restored and rewired? Let me know and we will go from there with a more complete diagnosis.
