Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1072 comet, mercury comet, leaded fuel

Question
I just bought a 1972 mercury comet with 38,000 miles 6
cylinder.I was wondering what kind of gas should I be putting
into it so that it runs better? I just put reg unleaded and
now it seems to be stalling. I love this car and I am going to
try and keep it original. So far it is ALL original.

Answer
Hi Jeanne:
If your car is original, then you need leaded fuel. Not unleaded. Unleaded fuel was made mandatory in 1975, prior to your model year. You can pick up lead additive at any auto parts store. You must add this to the unleaded fuel in your tank.
