Question
QUESTION:  I Have a 1962 Mercury Monterey Custom, and I'm trying to take the door panels off to get to the window thats off track. All I need to do is take the door handle and window handle off. So, how do I get the door handle and the window handles off so that I can take the door panel off?

ANSWER: The door handles and window crank handles are held on by "C" clips. The following website will show you the tool needed and a quick how to use it. http://macsautoparts.com/product.asp?camid=THU%26pn=JS0R3CHL1117004%26bhcd2=1283

QUESTION: thank you for your help the first time, the information was very helpful. I have another question, though!! After getting the door panel off, I realized that the roller track had separated from the window and the rubber. So, when putting this back which piece should be going closes to the crank? and also the crank itself had fell down, is there some kind of silicone that you put on the end of the crank to hold it in place?

Answer
When working on old cars and you do not have a manual you need to be a combination of Sherlock Holmes and 007 James Bond. Each piece that has become disconnected like the channel from the glass should have left a mark as to its original position. Also the roller that is mounted on the little shaft on the crank or lift arm should have  one of those spring clips in it to hold the roller on the shaft. The new rollers are available through any one of the reproduction old auto parts distributors that advertise in Hemmings Motor News (www.hemmings.com). I deal with both Macs and Dennis Carpenter for Ford Motor Company parts. If worse comes to worse www.books4cars.com and www.factoryautomanuals.com both have factory manuals for sale that will give complete instructions for your car. Make sure that it is a factory manual and not a Chiltons, Motors, or Haynes as they leave out a lot of stuff.
