Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1951 Chevy, 6 cylinder 216, city blocks, chevy

Question
Car runs for 1/2 hr in the shop with no problem.
I drive 6 city blocks and the car quits. Can't start it again. Battery is dead. This we have done now 4 times and the same thing happens each time.
I am at a loss. Help>>>>>>>>>>>

Answer
Hi Fred:
Your Generator is dead. Once the car is started, it should get it electricity from the Generator to feed current to the Ignition Coil. If the Generator is not producing current, then once the current in the battery is gone, the car will die. Your Starter is the only major device that should get its current from the battery. Everything else should be getting there current from the Generator.
