Classic/Antique Car Repair: Starter wiring, starter solenoid, starter wire

Question
I have a 72 chev C-10 with a 350. The starter has purple and yellow wires. The yellow wire was not attached. Before I hook it back up I would like to know what the yellow wire is for.

Answer
Hi Frank:
The colors are not absolute correct, but I'm guessing the purple
wiring is obviously the starter wire and the yellow wire use to connect
to the starter solenoid, which are now built into all model starter today.
Back in 72, the starter solenoid was a separate unit that mounted either
near the battery or near the starter.
