Classic/Antique Car Repair: 65 chevelle rough idle, carburetor adjustment, powerglide transmission

Question
Hi, I have a 65 chevelle with a 230 and a powerglide transmission.  The car makes a popping sound and the motor rocks when it idles, however as soon as u open the throtle up it goes away. It did this before i tuned it up and after i tuned it up.I checked for vacuume leaks and found none.  It has two slightly bent push rods (im assuming they're bent because they do not spin as free as the rest) one exhaust and one intake.could this be the problem?

Answer
Do not assume anything. To check for bent push rods remove them and lay them on a flat surface and roll them. If they are bent you will see it. If I was the one diagnosing the problem I would start with a compression test. It could be as simple as a carburetor adjustment or as complex as a burned valve. the compression check will eliminate internal engine problems and then you can go from there. Keep me posted.
