Classic/Antique Car Repair: oil pressure, falcon futura, drain oil

Question
hi  i have, a 63 falcon futura with the 170 6 cyl. the car has sit for 5 years before i purchased it. i changed the oil when i bought it and it seemed to run ok. after about 10 miles the lifters began to tap. i removed the valve cover and it is not oiling the top end. the oil pump seems to be working as i pulled the choke to lower the r.p.m.'s and the oil light came on.any help would be great.   thanks    wayne

Answer
Hi Wayne:
My guess is the engine may be clogged with old gummed up oil after sitting
for 5 years. Try using an engine cleaning detergent oil additive. If the lifters
are dry, make sure they are oiled from the top. Drive the car for about an hour to get
the engine hot. Then check the oil color. If it's dirty (dark brown), drain
oil, change filter and refill.

Also, you should replace ALL fluids in a car that's been sitting for 5 years. That includes...

1. Transmission
2. Radiator
3. Brake
4. Power Steering
5. Differential
