Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 3 speed transmission, ford galaxie 500, 1965 ford galaxie

Hello, my dad recently purchased a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 with the 289 and three speed tranny on the column with an overdrive cable. As far as we know this was original to the car. Problem is the overdrive cable is not hooked up and we cannot locate where the cable would be hooked up on the tranny. it has a 3:50 gear ratio and revs to high in 3rd at highway speeds. Any help on where to hook the overdrive or if this is not original would be great. Thanks.

I guess my question to you is simply is the overdrive unit still ion the car or did some one in the pat change out the overdrive transmission for just a thee speed transmission? The overdrive unit is a smaller transmission looking unit that is bolted to the rear of the transmission case. It should have several electrical connections as well a lever like the shift levers on the transmission that the overdrive cable should connect to.
