Classic/Antique Car Repair: gas sending unit, chevy impala, 1962 chevy impala

I need to replace the gas sending unit on my 1962 Chevy Impala but don't know how, is it something I can do myself, and is it a tough job? Thanks

You can check to see if there is an access panel in the floor of your trunk. Lift up the trunk mat and you'll immediately be able to see it--it's probably covered with some caulking around the seams. Remove the panel and the sending unit will be exposed.

If there is no access panel, you'll have to drop the tank--kind of a pain but not too difficult as long as it's empty. The sending unit is on top of the tank.
