Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Dodge L6 engine, hemmings motor news, stock answer

How do you check the oil on one of these flat head motors? I have no manual yet for help. It is in the mail though. I can not find a dip stick. All I see is a breather coming out the bottom of the motor. I just bought this car (1950 Coronet). Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. This engine has no oil filter. Do you know of any kit to add one.

The dip stick should be down beside the distributor. As far as the oil filter goes my stock answer for “where can I find….” Is to latch on to a copy of Hemmings Motor News, the old car hobbies classified bible. There are many companies that supply parts for old cars and you will find them in Hemmings. www.hemmings.com
