Classic/Antique Car Repair: Heater core 1962 Mercury Comet, heater core removal

Question
How do you remove the heater on a 1962 Mercury Comet? Also I thought I seem somewhere how to make a donation?

Answer
I'm sorry, I can help with mechanical problems (engine, trans etc.) but not body related things - that's not my area.

The usual way is to follow the heater hoses to where they enter the passenger compartment, then see if you can get access to the heater core from a panel or cover that you can see from the engine side. If you cannot, you'll have to work under the dashboard, just follow your nose, taking things out of the way until you get to the heater core.

If you are going to be working on this car - my advice is to get yourself the factory shop manual- it will pay for itself many times over.  It will give you detailed step by step procedures for this and anything else you will ever need to do on the car.

These manuals run on eBay all the time, or you can contact an automotive literature dealer. I use Ed Faxon at www.faxonautolit.com, but there are many others.

As for donations - I don't really know how that works or who to contact - I guess you could go to www.about.com and see if there is a link there.  I think this site just runs on volunteers like me - I don't know who pays for the servers and web site - maybe they sell ads?
