Classic/Antique Car Repair: Thermostat temperature, oldsmobile delta 88, thermostat temperature

Question
1966 Oldsmobile Delta 88 425ci 2-barrel.  I have a CD manual for my Olds, but it doesn't specify the temperature spec for the thermostat.  At Stant, they list 195° (Part# 45359) as OE thermostat.  They also mention the 180° (part# 45358).  Do you have a manual that list the OE temperature?  Thanks.

Answer
The 195 thermostat appears to be the correct one for the car. The higher temperature thermostats were part of the PCV emissions system. The lower temperature would not heat the oil enough and caused condensation and sludge build up in the crankcase. With advances in motor oil the higher temperature has more benefits than detractions.
