Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1955 cadillac fleetwood, cadillac fleetwood, jumper wire

Question
my horn does not work. i have checked both horns and the are operational.when i hit the horn button, there is no sound. i checked the relay and it seems to work. i was hoping for a run through on how to test to see what is the fault.

Answer
The way that I check a system is to locate and identify the wires on the horn relay. One should be live at all times. This can be checked with a voltmeter or test light. That leaves two wires, a heavy one going to the horns and a thinner one going up to the horn button on the steering wheel. The relay works by grounding the smaller wire causing the contacts in the relay to close sending power to the horns. I use a jumper wire and ground the terminal on the relay with the smaller wire. If the horn does not toot then the problem is the relay or the horns. If the horn toots then the problem is in the wiring to the steering column or the horn switch in the steering wheel.
