Classic/Antique Car Repair: 47 Studebaker Rear Seal, Rear Main seal installation.

Question
Hi, I need some help with installing a rear seal on a 47 Studebaker M-5 pickup.  I know its a 2 piece seal with 2 small rubber pieces, but where do the small 3/8 cork pieces go?  Thanks for any help.

Answer
There are lots of rear seals on these vehicles, but I'm going to take a leap of faith and guess we are talking about the engine rear main bearing seal, right?

If so, the cork pieces slide into the spaces between the rear main bearing cap and the block - vertically.

If you are working on the transmission, overdrive, rear end, rear axle or oil pan seals, write again and I'll give it another shot.
