Classic/Antique Car Repair: 53 Packard Rear Main Seal, Packard leaks oil from the rear main seal!!

I want to change the rope type to a neoprene rear main seal. I want to know if someone has done this successfuly. I am in the process of rebuilding this 288ci Packard and the engine is at the machine shop which is willing and capable of making changes to accept the newer neoprene seal if I can find someone with experience and imformation to advise us. Can you help?

You must be tired of the spots on your driveway and garage floor!

Remember that in that era, the roads were used to being coated with oil - that kept the dust down.

I don't know of anyone who has done this conversion - but maybe others are smarter about this.  Post a question to the Packard Forum and see if anyone offers help for this perpetual problem.  

The only straight 8 Packard that does not leak is the one that is out of oil!
