Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1965 Pontiac Parisienne Tilt Wheel, pontiac parisienne, tilt wheel
Front
Hello!
THANKS for taking the time to read my question. I live in the US and just bought a 1965 Pontiac Parisienne convertible. If you recall, in '65  Pontiac made these cars in Ontario using Pontiac bodies (mine has the same body as the Grand Prix or Bonneville) but rides on a Chevy chassis (I assume Impala) and uses a Chevy motor and trans (327 with Powerglide).

My question is which tilt steering column will work in my car? At 6'5" I really need one and hated to go with the custom hot rod column.

THANKS AGAIN!

Rob

Answer
I don't know how much help I can be here. I'm not sure that Pontiac or Chevy offered tilt wheel in 1965.  My 65 Gran Prix did not have it, and it was loaded with everything available (I ordered it specially), so I assume it was not available or I would have ordered it).  I am pretty sure Cadillac offered tilt and telescope wheel in 65, and since the steering box is probably the same as what is in your car (assuming you have power steering), you could try to find a 65 Cadillac column and that might fit, with a little creativity on the mounting brackets to the dashboard structure.

I tried a search of my parts interchange manuals, and there is no mention of tilt wheel for either Chevy or Pontiac in 1965 (of course those are not always accurate).
