Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 buick vin #s, master brake cylinder, state highway patrol

Question
door jam vin plate missing trying find number on frame, looked around the master brake cylinder but cant seem to find, please help with any ideas or resources is it hidden ?

Answer
It's not hidden, but its very hard to find due to age and rust etc.  You are looking in the right area - it is stamped on the left side frame rail, near the master cylinder. I'm not sure which surface of the frame rail it is stamped on, probably the top surface, but possibly the inside face. You may have to wire brush off the whole area and get in there with a strong light to see it.

The VIN should be a builder plant ID number (1 through 7) followed by a 7 digit number starting with 5360001 through 599 (plus 4 more digits), depending on when it was built.

Sometimes State Highway Patrol Officers have knowledge of a second secret location - in California, the CHP can find it, but they won't tell you where the number is, just what it is.
