Classic/Antique Car Repair: exhaust fumes, air fuel mixture, rotten egg smell

Question
I have a 52 Jeep Willys, runs great but the exhaust fumes coming from tail pipes is really bad..No broken pipes or cracks..Is there any tips or products to help clear up the fumes??

Answer
Hi Steve:
What is your definition of "Exhaust Fumes"? If you are smelling gas, then you are running too rich. Need a tune up. Adjust carb and possibly replace plugs (if they are fouled). If she run great, then I would guess the plugs are fine. So, first adjust the air/fuel mixture on the carb.

However, if you are getting a rotten egg smell, that is caused by sulfur additive in the gas, especially on could starts and high idle. Switch to a different brand of gas and drive the vehicle for at least 100 miles. Monitor the decrease or increase in sulfur smell. BP seem to work best for me, but they all have undisclosed levels of sulfur additive.
