Classic/Antique Car Repair: Ignition Switch 63 T-bird, correct key, switch assembly

Question
Hello Dick,
I am attempting to start my moms 63 TBird, however having no luck.  The key will not turn at all once the key is inserted.  I have purchased a new ignition cylinder and switch.  My question is do you have to change the switch if it is only the cylinder that isn't working?  Also, is there an easy way to remove the cylinder without removing the switch?

Answer
If you are sure you have the correct key for the car (it should also work the door locks, if it doesn't, it is the wrong key), and the key won't turn at all, you cannot get the cylinder out.

A locksmith could probably get it out with their special tools, and can make a key to fit the lock if it is in good enough condition, but if you don't want to call a locksmith, your only other option is to change the whole lock and switch assembly as a unit.
