Classic/Antique Car Repair: Gas leak -- older Cadillac, car gas, gas leak

Question
My Dad (90's) lives mostly on social security.  Some family who they thought he would "enjoy" gave him a big ole Cadillac hog.  Has a slow gas leak that may lose a pint a day.  Took it to his local mechanic (who is a good guy), and was told you cannet get to the line unless one removes the seats, carpets etc, and the total tag could run $1,000.  Has you ever heard of rerouting a gas lie in some manner which doesn't take so much work. Thanks in advance for anyone's assistance.

Answer
Hi David:
Find you another mechanic. Gas lines are never routing under the seat of a car (unless someone else did it). This is very dangerous and because of leak, could cause a fire or other problems. including fumes inside the car. Gas lines are usually routed under the car away from exhaust systems.
