Classic/Antique Car Repair: Classic/Vintage car repair, new distributor cap, pontiac firebird

Question
I am in the process of restoring a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Has new spark plugs, new plug wires, new distributor cap, battery, and battery cables. I went to try to start it for the first time in 10-15 years. The first 3-4 times I tried to start it it cranked, then it stopped and just clicked.

Answer
First check and see if it will rotate manually using a socket on the balancer.

If it rotates ok then you have inadequate elect to starter. Don't assume because something is new that it works. Check all connections and charge on the battery. If all is okay, your solenoid on the starter has gone out.
