Classic/Antique Car Repair: rear oil seal, good luck jack, pipe plug

Question
I have more than normal oil dripping from rear of engine. I think its the seal. whats the best way to replace it and any recomendations? thanks Mike

Answer
Get the Model A mechanics handbook by les andrews from snyders or MARC.  That will teel yoou how.
Without that, drop the pan, soak the new seal in oil for a day or so, and replace the seal and the little square seal that comes in the kit.  You just have to fight it and don't cut the seals short.
Good luck

When you drop the pan, the oil pump will drop out with it.  When you put it back, you will have to hold the pump in place as you rais the pan.  I take out the pipe plug on the side of the block and stick a piece of 1/4 inch rod in the hole, sprung to stay in there and hold the pump in place.  Some people put a bolt in the hole to act as a set screw to hold it in place.
