Classic/Antique Car Repair: 75 GMC Motorhome Paint, gmc motorhome, air grinder

Question
I have purchased a 1975 GMC motorhome which is fiberglass painted, and then decorated with a decal around the waistline of the motorhome.  The decal has dried, cracked and faded.  I would like to remove this to either replace with a new decal or have a neighbor spray some paint in its place.  I need to be able to remove this with minimal damage to the fiberglass.   Thanks for any help.

Answer
Sure, Donovan:

There are two methods generally used. You can use one or both.

A heat gun and scraper work well; a softer scraper, like a plastic-bladed one, is usually used.

3M makes a special disc that attaches to a drill or air grinder. It's their Vinyl Graphics Remover Disc:

When you're all done, use a solvent like Pre-Kleeno or an adhesive remover solvent, to clean the remaining glue off the fiberglass.

Good luck!
