Answer
Ricky, you picked the wrong guy to ask.  I strongly advise you to forget this idea - unless you are an experienced automotive engineer with a test track and a crew of experienced test drivers to evaluate your new design after you do all the modifications required for saftety and durability.

The 59 Lark is a very light duty car - its suspension, brakes, axles,  wheels etc. are not up to the stress that it will see when you put the engine you want in it.  You will be building yourself a death trap - don't do it!

The Lark is a great little car for around town usage - they are cute, rock solid reliable, economical to drive, peppy, and the only one on your block for sure.

If you want a car that looks like this, but goes like stink, look for a Super Lark with an R2 engine - if you check out the Pure Stock Dragraces, you'll find an almost identical car in certified showroom stock condition wins most of the drags it enters, turning in the high 12s and low 13s consistently.  It beats 409 Chevys, Trans-AMs, 455 Buicks, even Corvettes!  It's a 63 or 64, but it's the same body and appearance as yours, basically.  It is owned by George Krem - and is featured in many of the hotrod magazines.   And, I repeat, it is factory stock and designed for the power the Studebaker 289 puts out with a supercharger - it has the brakes and chassis to do it safely. And the parts are available off the shelf if something does break.

Now, don't shoot the messenger, please!
