Classic/Antique Car Repair: Generator and regulator, model a ford, charging system

Question
I have a 1929 Model A ford and I need to test the charging system it does not charge, can you give me a step by step way to test everything, and also do you have a wiring diagram for the internal parts of the generator, to see if it was rebuilt correctly or pictures of it, that would help. Thank You very much.

Answer
Before you take much apart, make sure the cut out is functioning properly.  Take off the cut out and see if you get a voltage.  If you spinn it, it should charge.  I don't have the wiring of the inside of the gen., it should be pretty straight forward.  It's just a motor/gen.  If the wires are all connected, it should work.  It would be easier to just take it to a shop and have them check it out.
Then get an alternator (6 volts),  and put it on.  That is what we all have done.  It won't be good for fine point judging, but it will keep your batt. up, even at idle.  You won't need the cutout and all the problems with it.
Good luck and if you want to get into the gen, I will help you.
