Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1978 Sedan de Ville, generator light, cadallic

Question
Happy Labor day! I'm having a problem with my car its a 1978 Cadallic Sedan De ville, for the pass week or so the Generator light has been coming on and off. Sometimes the light is bright and sometimes its dull. I don't know what's going on wit it. Is my battery going dead then it recharges or what? EXPERT PLEASE HELP ME! Thank You!

Answer
Hi Ann:
When your Generator light comes on it means the Generator is not sending enough electricity to the battery to recharge it. Most likely you just have a loose generator belt. Check to make sure the belt to the generator is good and tight. If not, have it tighten. If the belt is already tight, then the problem could be in the idle speed. If the light goes out when you are driving, but comes on when you are stopped, then have your idle speed check and adjusted. Otherwise have your Generator checked.
