Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 Mercury Cougar, Gasoline mixing into oil, 1968 mercury cougar, mercury cougar

Question
I believe the gasoline is mixing into the oil, what could be the problem here?

Answer
If the engine is not hitting on all cylinders because of plugs, wires, or low compression fuel can wash down into the crankcase. The other common cause is a ruptured diaphram in the fuel pump. Any fuel in the oil will dilute the oil and cause internal engine wear.
