Classic/Antique Car Repair: Trnsmission, chev pickup, throttle linkage

Question
I have a 1966 Chev pickup with 283 and a powerglide that was
missing downshift linkeage. I have all linkeage.
When you set lever linkeage to transmission do I set it so
the movement immediately starts the trnasmission lever or is there a short amount of delay.
In otherwords as soon as throttle opens do the linkeage start moving the downshift lever.
thank you.

Answer
It is adjusted in the full throttle position so that when the accelerator is on the floor the throttle plates are fully open and the transmission rod when pulled through the downshift detent will slip into the hole that connects it to the throttle linkage.
