Classic/Antique Car Repair: %^ Chevy ride height, 56 chevy nomad, bias ply tires

Question
I have a 56 Chevy Nomad. Can you tell me what the stock ride height is? Particularly the rear ride height. Thanks!

Answer
I don't have that information, but I can tell you where to get it - it is in your factory shop manual.
If you don't have one, you need to get it, because it will pay for itself many times over if you are going to be maintaining this car.  Remember, though, that the ride height information will be for a car with the original bias ply tires - and modern tires have a much lower profile.  You will have to use the difference in section hight to modify the number you get from the shop manual.  You can get detailed section height information from any of the vendors who sell tires for antique cars - Coker is a good example, and will have the information on their web site.

You can get a shop manual on eBay, or buy it faster from any of the automotive literature dealers;  I use Ed Faxon at www.faxonautolit.com, but there are many others to chose from.

Sorry I can't just directly answer your question.

Good luck with your beautiful car.  One of my all time favorites!
