Classic/Antique Car Repair: firing order, firing order, v8s

Question
I am trying to figure out the firing order for a 1969 fury 383 7.2L but i cant seem to find it if you could please help i would really appreciate it thank you.

Answer
The firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2, in fact that is the firing order for just about all non-Ford V8s of the modern era (and Ford uses the same actual firing order too, but they number the cylinders differently - typical Ford!).  It's a matter of manufacturing ease in the crankshaft design and balancing provisions.

By the way, the 383 is a 6.3L engine.  The 440 is the "7.2" liter, actually it's closer to 7.3.
