Classic/Antique Car Repair: 76 camaro, shift linkage, floor shift

Question
My 76 camaro wont shift in to park but it will shift into all the other gears. The tranny is a 350 turbo trans.

Answer
I can't really diagnose this without knowing a lot more, for instance what happens when you try to put it in park? Does it go into neutral or reverse?  Can you move the shift lever into the park position, or does something seem to be blocking it?  Do you have floor shift or column shift?

This problem could be caused by worn out shift linkage, bad motor mounts, miss-adjustment of the linkage, or an internal transmission problem.

You can sort some of these out for yourself, if you disconnect the shift linkage at the transmission and try to shift it by turning the shaft that comes out the side of the transmission with no linkage connected to it, if that will shift it into park, the transmission is OK, the problem is in the linkage or the motor mounts.

If you get back to me with some more information, I will try to help you more.
