Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1977 corvette, covette, 1977 corvette

Question
my 1977 covette has a hard time turning over its like the battery is bad but it is new and is charging fine, every time i try to start it it drags and then it finally starts do you have any idea what this can be. thankyou kirk

Answer
Hi Kirk:
Absolutely. First and foremost, just to make sure you don't and a loose or corroded wire from the battery to the starter. If this checks out, then your starter is going bad.

The dragging is most likely caused by the brushes not making very good contact with the copper commutator and  armature. Eventually, it will become so worn that when you try to start her, you will just hear clicking, like the battery is dead. I wouldn't want too long before replace it. Two options, either rebuild the current  starter or put on a new one.
