Classic/Antique Car Repair: Grease, wheel bearing grease, machine repairman

Question
This is a question about "Shell Durina grease".  I'm rebuilding  the transaxle in one of my garden tractors and MTD specifies 10 oz. of Shell Durina for the units lubrication.  I only see wheel bearing grease at my auto parts store.  The stuff is a tan color and thicker than wheel grease.  The new differential assy. I'm putting in it came packed with the Durina grease that's how i know what it looks and feels like.  What do yoou think the best substitute grease would be if I can't locate this Shell Durina product?  I'm a retired Machine Repairman and the grease we used on 1000 ton stamping presses at Ford looked and felt like axle grease.  That's why I'm puzzled why they stress using Shell Durina Grease.

Answer
They stress one grease because of commercial kick backs. It is all about money.

You know that metal doesn't know the difference. Use your common sense and use what youi know. You probably know more about grease than the kid who wrote the install manual.
