Classic/Antique Car Repair: Jog my memory, ford ranchero, ford falcon

Question
During the 1960s there was a pickup truck that was made to look like car. That is, it was built much lower to the ground than an typical pickup, but had only two doors and a pickup bed. Do you know what it was called and who made it?

Thanks, Jo

Answer
Chevrolet made the El Camino, and Ford had two different versions. One was on a Ford Falcon and the other was the Ford Ranchero. Over the years both car companies switch between the full sized chassis and the intermediate chassis. The El Camino lasted well into the 1980's. The Ford version when on the Torino frame and loaded with accessories was nicknamed the "Cowboy Cadillac." Also Studebaker made a pick up that used the Lark nose.
