Classic/Antique Car Repair: vin location, buick skylark, location 64

Question
64 Buick, vin plate in door post is missing,  want to by the car but want to make sure the title the gentleman has is the correct title.  Are there any other locations to look?  Believe the car to be a 64 Buick Skylark

Answer
That is the only published location for the VIN.  Most, if not all, cars have a secret location for the VIN, but that is known only to the officials in each state that are certified to identify cars.

In California, that is the Highway Patrol officer at the station where they do VIN verification.  He has a book which lists all the secret places for the VIN for each year and brand of car.  He will not tell you where it is, but he will take the car into his inspection station and find it, then tell you if it matches the paperwork.  You run the risk of him confiscating the car if it is a bogus VIN, and the car turns out to be stolen - this happens more often than you might think!

Since I don't know what state you live in, I can't tell you where to go for this service, but start with your local state's DMV or Highway Patrol office - ask them where you can go to get a VIN verified.

If the seller won't cooperate in getting this done, I'd pass on the car.
