Classic/Antique Car Repair: Timing on a 1951 Chevy PU, distributer, flywheel

Question
I have an old 1951 Chevy PU that someone replaced the 216 engine with a 235 engine. From the best I can tell, the 235 is a late 50's or early 60's model. My question is which direction should I turn the distributer to increase the time? Counter clockwise or clockwise? I'm timing it by ear because it is difficult to get to the old timing marks on the flywheel.

Answer
An easy trip to remember about timing is that advance is always the opposite direction as rotation. Pull the cap and bump the engine over. Check the direction of rotation and then advance timing is to rotate the distributor in the opposite direction. For your engine advance is counter clockwise as rotation is clockwise.
